About us

In 1938, as America was recovering from the Great Depression, the employees of Inland Empire Paper Company founded what is known today as the Spokane Media Federal Credit Union.

Originally created so its members could enjoy easier access to money for emergency use, SMFCU expanded its field of membership to include radio, television and newspaper employees in 1973.

Since that time, SMFCU has become Spokane's only financial institution that caters to the needs of regional media employees.

Because of restrictive guidelines that ensure member exclusivity, SMFCU to this day remains a relatively small credit union.

The benefit of our small stature is found in our one-on-one, personally oriented service.

When you become a member of SMFCU, you'll find we take the time to get to know you.

More than 1200 people hold memberships in a Credit Union that believes remaining exclusive means better service to members.
